The Italian champions have been linked with a move for Mata since the
summer transfer window slammed shut due to the intense competition for
places at Old Trafford.
The former Chelsea player has also previously been linked in a possible swap deal for Roma star Kevin Strootman.
However,
Mata's storming start to the season has convinced Van Gaal that he is
worth keeping despite the arrivals of Angel Di Maria, Radamel Falcao and
Ander Herrera
According to reports in Spain, Juventus have now switched their attention from Mata to Barcelona wing-wizard Pedro.
That is likely to come as a blow to Arsenal and Liverpool who are keeping tabs on the Spaniard ahead of possible January moves.
Pedro
has a buyout clause worth £120m in his contract with the Catalan club
but he is considering his future as he is unhappy at the lack of game
time he is receiving under new Barca coach Luis Enrique.
He has
just two years left on his current deal and could go for a fee nearer
£15m with Enrique promoting young attacking stars Munir El Haddadi and
Rafinha
