The Daily Star understands
that Manchester City and Manchester United are both ready to move for
Everton’s James McCarthy, if the midfielder fails to agree a new deal
with the Toffees.
The 23 year old moved to Goodison Park just over twelve months ago on transfer
deadline day, hurriedly agreeing terms in order for the £13m deal to go
ahead, on the understanding that his contract could be improved based
on his form.
The former Wigan Athletic man believes that he has
earned a new deal, but talks are yet to commence leading him to be
linked with a move away from Merseyside.
McCarthy has made
forty-three appearances in all competitions for Everton, scoring his one
and only goal for the club so far in the 2-0 victory at Hull City on
the final day of last season while internationally; he has been capped
twenty-four times for the Republic of Ireland
