Former Nigeria player Mutiu Adepoju has said Stephen Keshi’s Eagles must learn from the 1994 set of the senior national team if they hope to get their 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers back on track.
The ex-midfielder, who was nicknamed ‘Headmaster’ due to his prowess in scoring with his head, said that commitment and the urge to win made his own generation of Eagles thick and hard to beat.
"I think it’s a generational change. Our generation is different from this one but that doesn’t mean they don’t have the talents,” Adepoju told Goal.
"During our time, we were playing to make a name for ourselves but that is not the case nowadays.
"Most of us never had the best of training facilities but there was commitment, urge to win and that helped us win games."
He however pointed a way forward for the current Eagles to return to winning ways again.
"Hopefully with time, things will change again. All we need to do is get our acts right and get out of the in-house crises, then we move forward.
"Also, a lot of things need to be done as it concerns the mentality of the players because they need to be motivated,” he concluded.
